Awning size calculator: find your size by make and model

Pick your caravan’s make (for example Swift, Bailey or Elddis), model, type and year, and the finder shows its A-measurement, awning size and porch measurement. Caravans can change between model years, so check the year carefully. If yours isn’t listed, measure it using the steps below.

Awning size guide: what you need to know

This caravan awning size guide starts with one number. For a full awning you need your caravan’s A-measurement, which is the distance in centimetres from the ground on one side, up and along the awning rail over the roof, and back down to the ground on the other side. Many caravan handbooks list it, so check there first.

If yours doesn’t, here is how to measure for a caravan awning yourself:

1. Park the caravan on level ground.
2. Take a length of string or a flexible tape measure.
3. Start at the ground on one side, directly below the awning rail.
4. Run it up the side and along the whole awning rail, over the roof.
5. Bring it back down to the ground on the other side.
6. If you used string, mark it and lay it against a tape measure.
7. Note the figure in centimetres and find it in the awning size chart above.

Common measuring mistakes

• Cutting across instead of following the curve of the awning rail.
• Letting the tape twist or stretch.
• Measuring on a slope.
• Measuring the caravan body instead of the rail.
• On a seasonal pitch, measuring away from the pitch. Decking or a raised base can change the figure, so measure in position.

Caravan awning sizes explained

Full awning sizes

Full awnings run along the whole awning rail, so these awning sizes are based on A-measurement. Each size covers a 25cm band, and a higher number means a longer caravan. Among our Camptech awnings, sizes 15 to 17 (1000cm to 1075cm) are the most popular.

Porch awning sizes

Porch awnings cover the door area rather than the full length, so they use two measurements instead:

• H: the height from the ground to the awning rail. Don’t use the full height from your handbook, as that isn’t taken at the rail.
• L: the length of the straight part of the rail.

Most caravans have a connecting height of 235-250cm, which most porch awnings are designed to fit. Widths start at around 200cm and go up to 400cm or more. Check that doors, windows and vents won’t clash with the sides, and think about the depth you want from the awning.

What are standard awning sizes?

There is no single standard. Full caravan awnings are numbered by A-measurement in 25cm steps, from size 4 (725-750cm) to size 22 (1175-1200cm). Porch awnings are sold by width instead, starting at around 200cm.

How do I find out what size awning I need for my caravan?

Work out your A-measurement from the handbook, the size calculator or a tape measure, then match it to the chart. If you would rather not, send us your caravan’s make, model and year and we will confirm the size.

What size is a size 16 awning in cm?

Size 16 is for an A-measurement of 1025-1050cm. The same chart gives size 12 as 925-950cm, size 13 as 950-975cm, size 14 as 975-1000cm, size 17 as 1050-1075cm and size 18 as 1075-1100cm.

What size is a 900cm awning?

900cm is a caravan A-measurement, not the width of the awning. It sits on the line between size 10 (875-900cm) and size 11 (900-925cm). Send us your make, model and year and we will confirm which suits your caravan.

Are caravan awnings universal?

No. Full awnings are matched to your A-measurement and need the awning rail on your caravan. Porch awnings depend on the rail height and length, plus the position of doors and windows.

Do all brands use the same awning sizes?

No. Camptech, Sunncamp and Dorema use the numbered sizes in the chart above, but some other brands have their own size numbers or codes. Always check the chart for the brand you are buying.

Can I use this chart for a used awning?

Yes, if the awning has a numbered size such as size 14, the chart shows the A-measurement range it covers. Check the brand first, as a few makers number their sizes differently.

What if my awning doesn’t fit?
